Amsterdam, Holland

I believe this image captures the peace and tranquility of the supposed 'city centre', unlike any city i have been too in the United Kingdom, and the rest of the world, Amsterdam, Holland, remains the one I am still to this day after my visit 30th-31st July 2013, completely memorised by. The way in which the city centre resembles nothing like any other, it is more like a seaside town rather than a busy buzzing city, and this is why i absolutely love this photo, it completely captures the laid back, but organised attitude towards things, the people wander the canals simply because of the constant sense of beauty that completely masks it. For this image I took the eye catching green in the top third of the image, and raised the contrast and vibrance, so that I could capture the wonderfully colourful personality that Amsterdam naturally conveys, this process is repeated along the canal, adding this beautiful green tone rippling through the water. I kept the canal bridge in the middle half the image, so that I could create this great use of perspective lines, caused by all the buildings, windows, the canals walls, and the leaves on the trees. Over all i believe this image to be one that captures nothing but the utter beauty that repeats itself all the way through the city of Amsterdam.

This image was taken with the idea of capturing the tightly compacted architecture of Amsterdams city centre. Straight away on arrival you notice the completely squeezed building layout of the city, through the use of a large amount of huge windows, the inside of these buildings have an illusionary feel that creates the enlarged sense of size. Simply looking out this unusually large window, we see a puzzle of roof top, pipes and windows, of which all compress into this relatively small area of space. Darkening the shadows and editing the photo so that it created a washed out effect on the colours and textures throughout the photo.

This photograph completely wraps up the Amsterdam night life atmosphere in one, with a brilliant setting that is absolutely bursting with colour and culture. The reflections of the sex shop lights bouncing on the water creates this sense of tranquility, and represents the infectious energetic atmosphere that hangs in the air of Amsterdam. I used photo shop to change the colour in different ways such as the vibrance, saturation, curves and levels. Also the bikes provide a lively foreground, highlighting the almost impossible to miss the style of bike of which Amsterdam, and the rest of Holland so proudly use.

Who Am I

Born 18th June 1995 Currently living in the small town of Newport, just far away enough for it to be known by anyone. Currently studying at New College Telford, a growing interest for photography and everything to do with it has driven me to decide that i will study a photography course at degree level. I have always loved photography and always had an eye for it. Capturing a specific moment or event in a way that open up someones mind to a different perspective of reality is key to the narrative of my photography. Anything that can be captured with thought behind it has the ability to amaze someone.
