Frozen Motion

Taken with: Canon EOS 550D
This image was inspired by the artist Dale Grimshaw. I took this image with the hope of capturing the suppressed emotions of an individual, whilst in a room that is empty. The mind is a wonderful and frightening thing at night time, or when you are alone by yourself, the mind suddenly becomes alive and buzzing with thoughts and ideas that is sometimes only sparked by the cocktail of darkness and loneliness. Some minds are a little different to others, and may focus on the negative thoughts, and build on them. To capture this moment, I used lighting, to cause the shadow on the one half of the face, this created a wonderful effect, and captured the emerging facial features that are highlighted by this low lighting technique, this lighting also creates the shadow silhouette head shape. This shadow overlaying the rest of the head captures the angry, unusual emotions portrayed by the models face, this adds to the idea that true personality, and true thoughts come through by a mix of loneliness darkness. Using a slow shutter speed of around 1 second, I was able to capture the distortion of the facial features as the model moves into the light. Portraying the image in landscape, enhances models lonliness. I took the image, with the model topless, to increase the feeling of naturalness and exposure of inner thoughts and attitudes.

Location: Shifnal Cemetery, Shropshire, England

This photo was simply inspired by the location of which I was in. Walking through the cemetery at night was a first for me, and along came with it a very stereotypical sense that someone, or something may be watching me. I used my girlfriend as a model, so I had her stand under the light from the lamp-post, darkness surrounds the light, so the light made an excellent place to have my model stand, as she would be completely focused on in the photograph. I used a slow shutter speed and moved the camera slight, not only did this create a motion effect, but the haunting atmosphere that now lingered on the photo was amazing. Along with the use of editing to distort the imagery, this blurred figure produces a very haunting feel that mostly all people will feel when walking through a cemetery at night.

Location: London Eye, London, England
Taken with: IPhone 5

This image was taken on a college trip for all the A Level English students. Typically we were taken on a coach tour through the city to see all the sights, along the way i saw the London Eye on the other side of the river Thames, I thought it would be a great idea to capture the Eye directly inline with it across the other side of the river, and I also captured the branches coming down from the trees, these branches broke up the perfectly circular shape of the Eye, and the structure of it, mixing in natural engineering like trees for instance, with man made engineering and architecture. I wanted this image to bring upon an idea of humans winning a war against nature, as the London Eye is the thing that remains most noticeable in the image, even though it is covered and broken up by the branches. Using black & white minimised the tones, and allowed the image to be fully focused on the textures, and shapes of the foreground and background.

Who Am I

Born 18th June 1995 Currently living in the small town of Newport, just far away enough for it to be known by anyone. Currently studying at New College Telford, a growing interest for photography and everything to do with it has driven me to decide that i will study a photography course at degree level. I have always loved photography and always had an eye for it. Capturing a specific moment or event in a way that open up someones mind to a different perspective of reality is key to the narrative of my photography. Anything that can be captured with thought behind it has the ability to amaze someone.
